FILTRATION

For culinary and cosmetic markets the oil from the press is usually filtered as it contains small pieces of shell and fine seed pulp. Filtered oil is crystal clear and does not leave a sediment layer in retail containers.

For smaller scale batch production (eg. less than 200 gallons per month) it is possible to simply allow the sediment to settle for 2 weeks or more in a tank, this allows most of the solids to fall to the bottom of the tank. The oil above the sediment can then be drawn off and pumped through a polishing filter to give crystal clear oil.

For larger scale production the oil can be continuously pumped through a special type of filter that will remove the suspended solids straight off the press, this means the oil can be filtered as soon as it is pressed there is no need to leave it for weeks to settle. Continuous filtering is achieved using a depth filter:

POLISHING FILTER:

20cm food grade polishing filter
Variable speed pump
Pressurecontrol with adjustable spring bypass

A low cost polishing filter similar to a wine filter but using oil compatable plates and oil compatable pump
This system can only be used after the oil is allowed to settle for 2 weeks or more.
Variable speed pump and pressure bypass enable good pressure control to ensure filter cards are not overpressured or 'blown'
All stainless steel fittings and food grade plastic plates
Disposable filter cards are readily available and low cost
Guide price approx: $3,000

DEPTH FILTERS:

Depth filters - Filters for immediate continuous filtration, no need to let the oil settle.

This type of filter removes the need for sedimentation and is used where the press or presses will be run for long periods or continuously. No need to allow the oil to settle and no sediment in the bottom of the settling tank to deal with. This filter differs from those above in that it has a high solids holding capacity. Once full the filter is opened and the solids fall out, or are manually eased from the filter sheets using a simple hand tool like a kitchen spatula, the press is closed and filtering continues. A food grade filter aid powder such as diatomaceous earth or cellulose is sometimes used. Sizes range from a 5 plate 8 inch filter up to a 50 plate 25 inch filter. Models available to filter a few gallons per day to several thousand gallonns per day.
PRICE: please email with approximate throughput required, I can also match the appropriate filter to a chosen press.
